H.E Governor Wycliffe Oparanya flags off Kibo Motorcycles purchased by Kakamega County

His Excellency Governor Wycliffe Oparanya flagged off 10 high-end motorcycles purchased by Kakamega County Water and Sanitation Company (KACWASCO) today 17/10/2019 at the Kakamega County offices. KACWASCO procured the motorcycles from Kibo Africa Ltd, the local manufacturer of Kibo motorcycles. The Governor was accompanied by other dignitaries, among them was Deputy Governor Prof. Phillip Kutima, KACWASCO chairman and Managing director and Kibo Africa’s CEO and founder Mr. Huib Van De Grijspaarde.

KACWASCO Chairman and Board of directors, Dr. John Wamokonjio, stated that Kibo Africa Ltd has supported the organization in the best way possible by creating all-weather motorcycles to enable the organization in provision of quality water and service delivery.

According to Mr. Fredrick Atwa, the Managing Director of KACWASCO, the organization purchased Kibo motorcycles in line with President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Big 4 agenda, specifically on increasing GDP from manufacturing to 25% and his circular that states, “All government agencies are to buy locally assembled motor vehicles to boost the manufacturing sector in the country”.

According to Kenya Manufacturers Association, “Manufacturing currently accounts for about 14% of Kenya’s GDP”. This makes the industry a crucial engine for sustaining economic growth and development, job creation and poverty alienation.

Mr. Huib, commended the government for its directive which in turn has seen the local manufacturers benefit from the Kenyan government. He adds that the company has carved out a niche as not just a world class manufacturer but also a socio-economic driver in terms of knowledge transfer and job creation within Kenya. The company also contributes to the other agenda 4 goals, by providing opportunities to the youth through employment at the manufacturing plant.
